This is in Vietnamese Guc or Gac fruit..It is a cucumber relative, I found it in Sapa in the market, iI was with a friend Trang and she said her granny made a beautiful sticky rice with it, Inside there are many large seeds surroundes by a brilliant orange/red pilp, which has a fatty consistency, no special flavor but vere fatty and nice, I soaked the seeds in rice vodka and it turned a hot orange color.. I cleaned and saved the seeds, they are a cool scarab like shape, Trang said her granny used to roast them and grind them into a medicine..

SO the story is the health industry got a hold of this and has made juice with it and other ingredients, they call it a super food, one comes from Uk or Holland it has a name like G formula or something like that..

Ciao from Italy, Foodhunter Mark

Graham - I knew that I'd seen it somewhere before.

I'm a bit surprised that I hadn't seen them around in Cambodia previously - does anywhere apart from Vietnam eat them?
